Lightyear Notes
Lightyear is a measurement of distance. (The distance light travels in a year.)
Light's Speed= 300,000 kilometers per second.
Light Year= 9.5 trillion kilometers, or 5.9 trillion miles.
Sun to Earth= 91,000,000 miles away: 8.5 m
Travis: 2.0 seconds for 10 meters or .01 kilometers; 0.005 kilometers per second
Bhavana: 3.9 seconds for 10 meters or .01 kilometers; .0026 kilometers per second
Travis: at .005 kilometer per second; .3 kilometer per minute; 18 kilometers per hour; 432 kilometers per day; 157,680 kilometers per year
Bhavana: at .0026 kilometers per second; .156 kilometer per minute; 9.36 kilometer per hour; 224.64 kilometer per day; 94,607 kilometer per year

Galaxy Notes
A galaxy is a mass of stars, gasses, and dust held together by gravity.
3 types:
-Spiral
-Elliptical
-Irregular
Clusters: Galaxies that travel together in space!

Spiral Galaxy:
- Characterized by a bulge at the center and spiral arms.
- Spiral Shape is caused by the rotation of the galaxy.
- Milky Way is a spiral Galaxy.

- Milky Way is a spiral Galaxy.
Elliptical Galaxy:
- Characterized by very bright centers and very little dust and gas
- Appear elongated or spherical and are basically a massive blob of stars with very little dust
- Composed mostly of old stars that have used most of the dust and gasses that used to surround the center

Irregular Galaxy:
- Galaxies that do not fit into any other class
- As their name indicates, they have irregular shapes
