Notes on others
Runoff:
Runoff is the running down of feces, water, and dirt into streams and ocean. Runoff can be poluted and can effect the fish and anyone who eats the fish.
Dead zones:
Toxic areas in the water can kill off fish and prevent people from swimming or fishing. A place basically without much oxygen.
Waste disposal:
Cruise ships dump waste into the ocean. From runoff and animal waste can run into the ocean. affects marine life and anyone who eats fish or plants.
Overfishing:
Overfishing is when you fish too much and the fish start dying out because the population is decreasing to fast and they don't have enough time to repopulate. The world's fishery would colapse in a several decades if the overfishing continues.
Artificial reefs:
Artificial reefs are man made reefs where ocean organisms can live. Sunken ships are artificial reefs, and people have relized that it is hard on natural environment to support some life form. So, they put recycled, unneded supplies to make space in landfills and create a "fake" environment. We make the artificial reefs and it leeds to the issue of overfishing because it attracts a lot of fish, making it a ground for fishing.
Climate change:
Have to have a reason for climate change. Currently, the overabundance of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere causing the earth to heat up. That makes the ice melt, making the weather unpridictable, and everything from cutting down trees to burning resources, prevent oxygen from cycling. Also, the atmosphere heating up kills off the algi in the ocean, which is our biggest source of oxygen.
Oil spills:
Oils spills are spills of oil in the ocean or on land. The most common cause when they are taking oil out of the ocean, it can leak, spilling into the water. The land sometimes leaks oil, but will not cause problems. But, when people take large amounts, it can cause big issues for the environment, because it can kill off organisms and mutate animals. Oil spills can also be cause by runoff, because the oil in cars can run down to the oceans and rivers. Humans therefore are the main cause for oil spills, and it is really hard and expensive to clean up oil spills. This would pollute our food source.
